Jordan Brand and Spike Lee have come together to design the Jordan Spiz’ike. Initially nicknamed the “retro Frankenstein”, the Air Jordan Spizikes (Spiz’ikes) had as many haters as lovers initially and probably a few more. Many anticipated that this was going to be a bust, but when word got out that the first colorway of the Air Jordan Spizikes would only be available along I-95 (as per Spike Lee’s request), the hype for these shoes boomed!
The Air Jordan Spiz'ike is a fusion of the best qualities of the Air Jordan 3, Air Jordan 4, Air Jordan 5, Air Jordan 6, and Air Jordan 20. and pay homage to Spike Lee and his famous character, Mars Blackmon.A key ingredient in helping to mold the image of the then young Jordan line, Spike Lee contributed to each sneaker represented through the Spiz’ike including his most recent return to the brand last year with the Air Jordan XX.
The designers behind the Jordan Spiz’ike took the most discernible characteristics of the Jordan III, IV, V, VI, and XX and combined them onto one upper. The Air Jordan III is represented through the cement print and sole of the sneaker, the wings of the Jordan IV are placed at the ankles of the sneaker, the netting, ankle, lacelock, and the overall shape of the sneaker are taken from the Jordan V, the Jordan VI is represented through its classic tongue, and the lasering on the Jordan XX makes another appearance on the sockliner of the Spiz’ike. In addition to the obvious Jordan design characteristics, Spike Lee’s Mars Blackmon character and his “40 Acres and a Mule” logo are placed on the back of the kix.
So far two pairs have released which the first color way is White/Varsity Red-Classic Green and was a East Coast exclusive. This pair was indeed limited, while only 4032 pairs released, but rumor has it some pairs did release unnumbered. The second color way up is the Black/Varsity Red-Classic Green was a Life Style release and places like Eastbay and sneaker shops with an LS account.
Confirmed color ways of the Nike Air Jordan Spizikes to release are True Blue, Fire Red, Do the Right Thing inspired and White/Varsity Red-Argon Blue. At the moment a rumor which is turning out every day to be more and more a confirmation is a OG color way will release which is White/Black Cement. This color way of the Air Jordan Spizike is after the Air Jordan IV color way, which was also featured in Spike Lee’s movie “Do the Right Thing” were Buggin Out had his brand new Air Jordan’s scuffed by a pedestrian walking his bike.
